My system specs:

Win 98se v4.10.2222
PIII 750 running at 840MHz
256 MB ram
Pioneer A104S DVD Rom
Geforce 2MX graphics
Canon BJc 250 (parallel)

Wishing to use certain DVD/CD programs has required me to run aspiinst.exe to update to v4.6.0. Prior to this, aspichk.exe returned the following log on my old setup:

Following the update, the DVD/CD software works, but trying to print in Word causes the following illegal operation:

Adobe Acrobat reader tells me to "use control panel to specify a default printer" (which I have already d.one). IE5.5 opens the print dialogue but the printer queue does not activate and nothing gets through to the printer.

After all of the above, can anyone tell me of a way to revert back to my original ASPI settings and correct this problem? Many thanks.

Rob

You may not have to revert back to your ASPI settings.
Have you tried reinstalling the printer i.e. deleting it and then reinstalling it, or even rebooting it. It may "click" with the new settings then.
If this fails run System File Checker, under Accessories, System Tools, System Information, when you run this it should notify you that WINASPI.XXX has been replaced by WINASPI.XXY. You are then invited to verify this upgrade or restore the old file (as long as you know where the old file is).
Most old files are on the windows disk, but there are other places you can find important system files.
Let me know if this worked for you or if you have any trouble. I'll try to pass on my painful experiences with Windows and all the other operating systems designed, not to run machines as people believe, but to give consultants and engineers something to do.

Garyeag,

Cheers for the response. In the end, reinstalling the printer worked, and I tried that not long after putting up my post (blush). but the tip about system file checker is really great. Many thanks.
