aspi32 service 3

What should the aspi32 service be set to (auto, system, manual, boot)? I recently had problems after installing an old version of Adaptec's CD Creator on W2k. I disabled all the relevant services from the recovery console and was able to uninstall CD Creator, but now I can't get W2k to recognize either of my cd drives (one is DVD, other is CD-RW). All I can think of is that I didn't put the aspi service back to the correct start option - I forgot to look at what it was before disabling it. Any suggestions?

Another idea I had was reinstalling W2k. Is this possible 'on top of' current system without loss of information?

Unfortunatly Win2k Does not do an "On-top' install. It deletes the WINNT folder or creates a new one (depending on what option you select. As for the aspi132 it is related to the Adaptec softwrae. I would try setting it to auto and see what happens. James Collins

Thanks. I will try both when I get home from work.

Also, when reinstalling Win2k, do any other folders get deleted besides the winnt folder? I'd like to know for future reference.

Ok...tried making aspi32 auto, but tht didn't work. However, DrDon's post led me to the correct solution. I had to delete 2 things from the registry. Thanks for the help.
