Hi,
I have a Windows 2000 Professional system and using IIS 4.0
All of a sudden, the ASP pages on my site have stopped working and give the following error on load :

The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed

HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer

Normal HTML Pages are displayed properly. Is there any setting which needs to be changed for the asp pages to work ?

First of all goto Tools > Internet Options in Internet Explorer then goto Advanced tab and uncheck "Show friendly http error messages" then you will be able to see a non-friendly error message..which just so happen to be more friendly then a 500 error. Once you get that error, post it and then I can pin-point the problem. www.vzio.com

Hi,

On unchecking "Show friendly http error messages", the following message comes on all the asp pages :

"The requested resource is in use."

the only cause of this error I know of is due to changing the selection from caching ISAPI application to not caching ISAPI. You may need to select this in the application mappings.

here's a copy from the help manual showing how to fix:
This setting can be changed from the Web Site properties by selecting Configuration on the Home Directory tab. In Application Mappings there is a checkbox for the Cache ISAPI Applications option. Changing this selection modifies the default behavior of IIS . This option is for non-production testing only.

hope that does it I'm trying, really I am!

Hi ,

Thanks for the kind suggestion. But i dont think that is the problem, 'cause the "Cache ISAPI Applications option" is already checked. both in the default web site properties as well as in the actual virtual directory properties. I have even tried uninstalling IIS and then installing it again. But this also didnt help much. Can u think of any other reason for this.

Hi :)

I came across a similar error message when I converted the drive where a website & the database resided on from FAT32 to NTFS. The IIS server was all setup OK & had the correct user-priviliges & permissions set. I forgot, however, to do the same for the database which resides in a different, unshared folder on the drive. I had to share the database-folder as well, or set its permissions correct anyway. Give it a go, it might work.

Regards,
- Alex
