I have a new install of IIS v5 on Win2k Server w/Service Pack 1. When I try to display .asp pages I get the http 500, Internal Server error.

If I specify in "tools/internet options - address" my machine name and start page as "richs-laptop//10100CMS_info1.htm", it works like a champ - no problem...so it is finding the directory path as specified in IIS. <thats a good thing>

But, as soon as you specify an ASP page in place of the HTM, the ASP existing in the same directory as the HTM, it chokes with the 500 error. For some reason it hates ASP pages.

I've tried specifying my pages (work fine on other IIS boxes) and default IIS help pages and neither display ok.

Certainly it is something with how IIS is set up but I cannot see what it would be.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Better a known bug then a new release.

Did you have your IIS server set to execute "script only"?

If you have anonymous access enabled, turn it of and choose Integrated Windows authentication (and log on to Windows with a user who has at least power user rights).

The user IIS uses for anonymous access could just not have enough rights to start asp pages or to create objects.

Thank you to all who replied. Oddly enough the "solution" came about when the file system was converted from FAT32 to NTFS. No other changes to the system, user privilege etc. Just Microsoft "Magic" in action!
