My operating system is WindowsXP Pro.
Orginally I installed Apache. I had Perl and PHP working. Then I wanted to run ASP pages. I learned that in order to use Apache with ASP pages, I would need to download a special ASP version to run on Apache. Is that correct? I didn't want to do that. I need to practice Microsoft's ASP for my test. So, I uninstalled Apache and installed IIS5.1 It looks to me as if it is working, I get the initial IIS5.1 Getting Started Page. Then, I go to load a simple ASP page and it doesn't load. I don't know what I am missing? I'm sure this isn't difficult.
Any ideas?

Goto IIS snaping -> Website's properties -> Home Directory

See if there is an application setup, or if it's grayed out.

I am not sure what IIS snaping is. I opened up the IIS Console. I checked each item on the toolbar. I couldn't find it. Is there somewhere else I am suppose to go?

I'm sorry... I ment to type "snapin".

The IIS Console, you should see a folder called Websites, and then your website. Goto the properties of your website.

I'm not sure where this snap in is. But, under the IIS documentation it keeps referring to Internet Services Manager. I understand that to refer to Internet Information Services. When I open it up, I looked for the folder Web Sites and clicked on Properties. I do not see anything that says snap in. I have ISAPI Filters, Home Directory, Documents, Directory Security, HTTP Headers, and Custom Errors as my tabbed pages. I do not see an "application setup". Am I in the right screen?
Whatever my problem is, I've repeated it on both my laptop and desktop. I just don't see what it is I'm missing.

Ah! I found the Application Setting. It was right there under the Home Directory. The Application Name is: Default Application. The Starting point is: Default Web Site. Execute Permissions: Scripts only. So, I guess its not grayed out. But, I still can not run ASP pages. Where else can I go?

is a (local) firewall (zonealarm?/ xp?) running? Anti virus programs are also suspect.

I am new to all of this. I don't quite understand. If I turn off my firewall and/or Anti virus programs, doesn't that leave me open for viruses and worms? I'm using McAffe's firewall and virus scan.

How would I go about this?
