Hi:

I want to upgrade a 3 slots - ASN router to 15.00. I have a spare 16 MB flash card to install in the ASN. I am not sure wether I need 3 16MB flash card or only one. I have read in "Installing and Maintaining ASN Routers and BNX Platforms" that I must use at least 3 flash cards, one for every slot. But at the moment I think there is only one flash card, cause when I issue the commands:

bcc> dinfo

VOL STATE TOTAL SIZE FREE SPACE CONTIG FREE SPACE
---------------------------------------------------------------
1: FORMATTED 8388608 1296169 582127

and:
R112:>dir 2:
Mounting new volume...
2: - Device mount error: 0x11 - Volume or Device does not exist

R112:>dir 3:
Mounting new volume...
3: - Device mount error: 0x11 - Volume or Device does not exist

So I only have one flash card, right? So why do I need 3 cards?

Thank you very much,

Diego.

Are the 3 ASN routers "stacked" ie cabled together with SPEX cables on the rear of the router?

Hi, dtabera

You can use one card for all. Best place to put it is first router in stack. If you have three cards, one in each router you have to upgrade all cards with same BayRS software revision. It will boot faster from three cards, it takes longer to boot from one card.

Thanks Brat and NetManRick. Actually, I have two cards: a 8MB card inserted in slot 1 with sw 14.00, and a brand-new 16MB to store software version 15.00.

Is it possible to have this second card in slot 2 with the new sw version, and boot the router with the new version using:

bcc> boot 2:asn.exe 2:config

with the 8MB card still in slot 1?

And, another question: according to Release Notes, asnboot.exe and asndiag.exe are the same version for sw 14.00 and 15.00, therefore I do not need to upgrade PROMs:

prom -w 2:asnboot.exe 1,2,3
prom -w 2:asndiag.exe 1,2,3

Am i wrong?

Thank you very much again, I am a little bit confused with this. I appreciate so much.

Diego.
