we aquired a old packard bell computer from a friend (she does not know the password )any way as soon as you turn on computer and it boot up it asks for a password. Its a PackardBell Legend 812CD

Hi friend,
It is still difficult but the easiest thing you can do for now is format the hard drive and install a new operating system.
If it is running winNT then you cannot access the data on it with out the password. So just do the formatting

A couple of things you can try:

1 - When it asks for the password, type in bell9 This is an old Packard Bell backdoor password.

2 - Unplug the computer, open the case, and remove the cmos battery. Wait for 20 minutes or so, replace the battery, plug in the computer and power it on. This should clear the CMOS. If it doesn't, repeat the steps, but wait overnight for the CMOS to clear.
