I'm running AS2000 on an NT4 Server with all current patches. I finally cleared up all of my other backup issues, and now I want to tackle this one. After my nightly backups complete, the Database Engine stops itself. No errors, just states in the activity log "Database Engine is Stopped". Am I missing something here? Thanks for any help.

Ben

It sounds odd that the engine would bomb out with out any explanation? does anything come up in the system event viewer under application? Have you set up the ARCserve system account with nece`ssary rights for an administrator?

Check that there is diskspace available on the Arcserve installed drive.

The Arcserve database is SQL, I converted it over due to disk space, and it's been working great. There is 600Meg free on C:, and the swapfile is on D: so that shouldn't be an issue. There are no events in the EventLog (Application or System). And Arcserve is using our Admin account, so it should have addiquate rights.

The assumption many7 people make that "Admin should be enough" is often presumptive and misleading. The ARCserve system administrator should have the advanced rights:

Log on Locally (Should have anyway)
Log on as a Service
Act as part of the Operating System

IF backing up remotely or on a Domain Controller, then a Domain administrator with Domain Admins as the primary group is preferrable.

Let me know how this goes.

I am having the same problem, with the same enviroment right now. did you solve it?

Thanks.

I am having same error, no error in event log, database just stops. I loaded the patch QO20824 yesterday. Backup ran fine last night, updated database, merged info. Then database just stopped, for no reason. Running W2K with Arcserve2000, SP4. Anyone figure it out yet?

I did resolve this... but it's been so long... I do believe it was a security issue. Check your rights, then check them again. I know it was something goofy and unexpected that resolved it. I really wish I had written it down now.

this morning i was checking all the service accounts and the SQL login and all the associated passwords, now, i have to wait, and tomorrow will be an answer....

Thanks for answer.

Now it is working, i changed the security from sql to integrated, and all works fine. (by the way, i don´t know why this is not working with sql security)
