AS2k Agent: Startup troubles, "failed to get agent edition"

I seem to run into some problems with trying to use the Arcserve Agent for windows NT/2000.
I tried reinstalling several times, but it keeps spitting out "failed to get agent edition RC=2" in the log file when I try to start the service, and the service dies. My last resort will be to install a couple of service packs, but I wondered if any of the real experts know what is going on before I do so...

Something to look into: If you are running Workgroup Edition, you can't backup a remote machine, even with agents. Workgroup is limited to the machine on which ARCserve is installed. You need Advanced Edition in order to talk to other machines.

No problem there, the backup server is running Advanced Edition. The sole problem is that the backup agent refuses to start its service. Thanks for your response.

Did you try running the license on the remote machine for the client agent?
