Hi

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any idea why it has happend. The other day I went to my computer and noticed that a 3rd CD drive (Drive F:) icon has appeared although I only have 2 CD drives. Why is this?? and if I just delete it will it cause problems?

Chances are something put it there - probably your burn software. Right click & select properties, does this tell you anything? Do you have nero imagedrive installed?

I have Nero burn software - but not sure if I have the imagedrive you said. I'm working from a different computer at the moment, but I will check later when I get home. I will also check the properties as you suggested, is there anything in particular I should look for??

Many Thanks.

I think that somewhere in the properties, you will see nero imagdrive or some such thing. If this is correct, to get rid of the drive unintstall nero imagedrive from add/remove programs.

I don't know for sure - I never read up on it, though I accidentally installed it myself once ;) . I suspect that it's a cd emulator - the contents of a cd roms would be stored on you hard drive and accessed like a cd rom. But my guess could be wrong on this.

This phantom CD drive, is one of two things. 1) You bought a new CD-Rom drive and forgot about it until that day, or 2) A Third Party program (Daemon Toolz, or Nero) has inserted it there.
If you goto Nero, and Click on the Image menu option. Make sure the image menu option is set to your CDRW drive, and not Virtual drive. Virtual drive is a way of burning the contents of your image onto HDD instead of your CD-Rom. You can then use a program such as Daemon Toolz to virtually Mount the image as though you were running it off a CD. This is the most probable cause mate.

Cheers

Well I'm pretty sure I didn't instal a new CD drive and I've counted them a couple of times ;) so it must be the Nero suggestion. I'll check it out tonight and let you know what I find.

Thanks for the tip!

Hi,

Following the advice given I checked the properties of the phantom drive, this is what I found...

It is a - image simulation SCSI CDrom Device

What is this?

Right, Snips...

What you need to do is check your programs. Make sure that Daemon Toolz, or Nero is not running a Virtual Drive.

If it's Nero just change the Image reocrder from the Virtual image, to your CDRW or DVDRW drive. If it's Daemon Toolz, there is nothing you can do unless you delete the program and then remove the drive (uninstall/disable it)

Either way...it is causing no malice towards your PC.

Cheers

Ok... tonight I will check Nero and Daemon.

If it means radical changes and uninstalling programmes I'll probably end up leaving it.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll let you know if anything interesting happens tomorrow.
