Anyone know the differences between these two AS/400 based apps?

I'm familiar with TrustedLink and might be going to an Extol based system.

Any insight would be appreciated.

TIA.

Tom.

Using both...
Extol has more features = more work.
I do not like the way Extol menus are done, too confusing even after 4 years for using it.
If you straightforward EDI nothing else Trusted LInk bits extol, otherwise i would choice extol.
Extol cheaper...sometimes slower...
Well, what exactly are you looking for?
I've seen you posted info about ftp before....
Can provide examples for different use of extol apis if you care.

Hi,

thanks for the comments.

I may be leaving my current place of employment and going to a shop that has Extol and was just wondering if anyone knew the differences.

Tom.

In comparing the pro's and con's of Extol, Gentran and TrustedLink Extol was the least featured translator (at that time). One thing that I did not appreciate about Extol is that they do not participate (as the others do) in any of the various industry support groups. They are a "generalist", i.e. we have a translator if it works for you ...good! WHereas the folks at TrustedLink have people who work closely with groups like AIAG in formatting future direction.

I also have heard that Extol requires more technical expertise to keep it humming.

I am biased toward TrustedLink in that they had the 1st GUI interface and their product is good.

give me a break EXTOL HAS THE LEAST FEATURES.
Ever mapped flat file or idoc in TL? right....
Also TL sucks too. What additional feature V5 upgrade provided . ZERO. just to make subscribers pay for the upgraded.
Yes, Extol requires more experties to run it. Much more then TL. And that is why i like TL if you EDI only. EXTOL has some issues too like IT IS NOT MULTITHREADED as adveritsed and in somecases slow .
GENTRAN on AS/400 will be the LAST translator i will use. Written in Cobol......has some many bugs that everytime we have an issue we getting CD with the patch. We have a lot of CD now....
