Hi Guy's
I have a user running XP Pro. and IBM Client Access software. Whenever he prints to his local printer,
his client display slows to a crawl.
Once the file has completed display speed returns to
normal. Remote print jobs are fine. Any Ideas?

The spooler is raking up too many CPU cycles. Either drop the process priority on the spooler or raise the priority on the client program. Hit CTRL-SHIFT-ESC while the client is running, click on the Processes tab, right click on the client program task, go to Set Priority and change it.

OK,
1. System will not allow me to set priority on the spooler.
"I am logged on as system admin."
2. Changing priority on the client program works, but it is only active for the current session. Once I close a session and restart the program the priority reverts to default. Problem only exists on local lpt port.

Open up RegEdit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print

in the right hand pane will be the key:

SchedulerThreadPriority

it is currently set to a DWORD value of 0x00000001, which is above normal priority. Reset it to either 0 (normal priority) or ffffffff (below normal priority). Reboot now.
