Hi,

We have AS 11.5SP1 on W2003 SRV on a P4D with 4TB of fast
RAID 50 lokal for staging. Library is a ADIC Scalar i500
with 2 x LTO-3.

Backup speeds are following:

Backup remote server (GBIT) to LTO-3 ca. 3-4GB/Min
Backup remote server to FSD ca. 4 GB/Min
staged Backup to FSD-group ca. 400MB/Min
- staged copy to LTO3 Tape ca. 6GB/Min

there must be some problem with the staging option.
Any Clues?
Thanks.

Hi,
we've got a similar problem. BAB 11.5SP1, Win 2000 Server (HP DL 360 G3, Intel Xeon 2,8 x 2, 1 GB RAM), MSL 5000 (SDLT) series library, FSDevice is SAN connected via optic fibre. When I back up directly to SDLT, the throughput on our fastest jobs (depend on source type of data) is 1,6 GB/Min. When staging, the backup speed slows down to approximately 300 MB/Min. I found out, that when the backup server runs only few jobs ( 1 or 2), the speed is ALMOST (more than 1 GB/Min)the same as when backing up directly to SDLT tape. When backing up directly to SDLT, the server resources are sufficient. I don't know what to do with this problem, maybe the Disk Staging Option is not the best idea :)

on monday and keep you posted!

Hi Otto206,
you are welcome. Great news. I hope it will help. Please let me know about you staging backups speeds!

Thank you
Pavel

Hi,

the Testfix T46B119 from CA did solve our issues!!

Staging speed is 2-3GB/Min!

You should request this fix if you have simmilar issues.

Greetings

Otto

Hi,
thank you for the information. Can you tell me what the fix is? Is is another version of tapeeng.dll or what? Thanks a lot.

Pavel

one more question :)
What about the load of the server, is it the same? Thank you

Pavel

Hi Pavel,

1. yes it is a new version of tapeeng.dll !

2. the cpu load is about 5-10% on a 3.2GHz p4 dual-core
supermicro server-board.

Otto

Hi,
they send me the test fix either. But I have asbackup.dll and registry patch, is it the same as you? The little problem is, that this corrects only jobs with one node only but I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks
Pavel
