Can anyone help me out....

How can i do a full-backup to two tapes using 2 tape drives? I have Arcserve 2000 advanced edition with Tape lib option.

I have over 300GB to back up and i'm using LTO 100/200GB backup tapes. I have library groups set up. I want the configuration to automatically use the second drive when the first tape drive has maxed out the first tape. Right now Arcserve asks me to insert a blank tape.

Is there anyway to get around this. I wish it could write to both tapes and drives at the same time, but not sure if i can do this with only 2 drives (RAID option needs 3 drives?)

please advise

Make sure that you have similar kind of H/W ( Firm ware & make )...

Then all slots has to be in the same group ....

Run a backup job and point the job to this group . If 1 tape gets filled automatically it will span to the second tape drive....

okay i have all the slots set for a library called "backup". when i setup a job to run a full backup, i'm configuring "1-tape" and it's set up to run every 3 weeks. where in the config for the backup tape do i tell it to span the job to the next tape, and how does arcserve know what tape to use in the library??

please advise

Macho,

you cannot accomplish this with ARCserve. When you have one job configured, then ARCserve will use only one of the two available drives. When a second tape is needed it will still go to the first drive. To effectively use both drives you'll have to split up your backup job into two separate jobs. Tape RAID can be setup for RAID levels 0, 1 or 5 and works the same way as disk RAID.
