We have a pretty big company and suddenly we are getting calls saying that systems set to dial out are getting a message 'not necessary to dial a 1 or 0' when dialing this number'. --even though neither is being dialed.

also some which require dialing the local area code are getting a message saying you must first dial a 1 or 0.

nothing we have done has changed. any ideas what the cause may be?

Look at your history on the switch to make sure nothing has changed. and if that is still true i would check with your carrier, to see if they changed something.

when I dial say a local exchange, say 9 then 271, it goes through. When I dial with the area code 9,xxx-271 it says I must first dial a 1 or 0.

Not sure what I need to change in the routing pattern or ARS for the area code dialing to work.

do a list trace on your ext when you dial out and see what that tells you.

Post what you see.

active station 2646
dial 9473 route:ARS
term trunk-group 31
dial 94732595 route:ARS

seize trunk-group 31 member 14
Setup digits 4732595
Calling number & name 2149283451
Proceed trunk-group 31 member 14
idle station 2646

Need to also see ars enter and route pattern 32.
And are you doing any digit conversion?

I did an ARS a location 1 which is where this number is but I dont see the prefix listed in the table except for

1473 11 11 6 fnpa

473 is not listed separately.

How do I keep it from adding a 1 when these calls go out?

But i also want to leave it intact to dial local with or w/o area code.

As of now it does dial correctly w/o area code.

On the Route Pattern form put a '4' in the Prefix field. That will supress the 1.

Prefix Mark 1 - Send a 1 on 10-digit calls, but not on 7-digit calls.

Create a new route pattern. Put TG 31 in it the same as it is in Route Pattern 32. Put one of your problem numbers in the ars table pointing to the new route pattern. Put a trace up on your station and make test calls. Change the NPA and Prefix Mark fields until the calls complete.

Do the same thing with TG 5.

According to the NANP tables, all Houston calls should be 11 digits.

Kevin

so changing the prx mrk on current route-pattern is not going to work?

My example has 473 as the first 3 digits of a 7 digit number which is an office code

Your post shows 1473 min and max 11 digits which is for 1 + 473 + 7 more digits which is using 473 as an area code.

If you never want to send the digit 1 on a particular call use Prefix Mark 4.

Kevin

The list trace shows making a local 7 digit call
Prefix Mark 1 does not send a 1 on a 7 digit local call

What are you trying to fix here?

I am trying to prevent a 1 from being added. one of the prefixes that suddenly do not dial out with 10 digits is 473. it gives the not necessary to dial a 1 or 0 message.

it works ok dialing 9 + 7 digits.

If I add a prefix mark 4 do i do so for just group 31 or group 5 as well?

Unfortunately you will have to experiment. Different carriers want different things. As I mentioned previously, create a test Route Pattern and put trunk groups in there one-at-a-time. Take your test phone number and point it to the Route Pattern and make your test calls.

Kevin

thanks kev. doing that now.

Im temporarily taking over for our admin who quit and trying to solve probs as they arise so im teaching myself this as I go so please bear with me and the inane questions.

When I do list ars analysis it shows location as ALL--and lists about 10-15 dial strings.

Yet I can list ars a of a specific locations as well. We currently have 5 different locations set up.

Do the location-all strings affect every location?

Should i only make changes within each specific location?

If it's not defined in the local table the system looks at the Location All table. To make test take your phone and assign it the same COR & Tenant as the problem location. You can also use IP Agennt/IP SoftPhone to put yourself 'there'.
