Hi All,

I have a confusion between ,ARP and DHCP, when a computer newly connects to any network, does it use ARP or DHCP to get the IP address for its Ethernet address from the router.

Thanks....

When you first switch on a device, the NIC automatically sends out (if it is set to DHCP) a DHCP DISC (which is a broadcast address), this request may traverse layer 3 devices if s relay agent is present. All DHCP's on the network respond. The NIC normally chooses the first DHCP response it gets. That DHCP then issues the address and all other relevant information (DNS etc) providing it has been configured correctly.
