I've just moved my MICS to a different office. When I connect power to the 0x16 fiber expansion unit (think it's a NTBB41), the red light on the unit flashes (the light is next to a wavy line symbol like this: ~ ), and phones connected to it also have their message waiting light flashing faintly and don't work. What is wrong? :(
If you respond really soon, I'll be your best friend because I'm stuck at the office until this is fixed.
Thanks!

The wavy line is the power symbol. Try a different plug. You should also try swapping the fiber cable just in case that one is dirty. I'm going with the power, though.

Hmm... The power cable on this particular unit is permanently attached. I'll try cleaning the fiber cable, and make sure I insert it right, when i get back (I don't have a spare). For now I just punched the phones from the expansion onto the main unit instead* and used "change DNs" (grumble grumble) to make the numbers right. This annoys me though. If the expansion turns out to be toast, though, I think i'll continue along this route.

* part of this move included a bunch of people leaving this office, so i have the free space on the main unit without the expansion now, the only reason i was keeping it was to let people keep their numbers.

Thanks for your advice! If the fiber cable is corrected right, then would you say the 0x16 is toast?

Regards,
-Dan

If the fiber cable is OK then try looking in Maintenance and check the port status for the port being used by the 0x16. Disable the port. Then go to Hardware and make sure the port is assigned as a station mod. Change it if it's different. Go back to Maintenance and enable the port. Give it a few minutes and see what happens. The 0x16 is probably defective if that doesn't work.

Typically that means you've got a dead mod, but as you've just moved it, a dirty connection, or a mis-patched fiber cord should be looked at first.

To verify the mod, try to swap it out with another known good on the system.

I had an 0X16 die a couple weeks ago, caused m/w light on 7316's to flutter. The giveaway was no light coming out where you plug the fiber into.
