In this area of Kentucky we are in the process of overlaying an additional area code with 270, that new code being 364. I need this to be programmed so we dial it like a seven digit nxx. How do I program the new area code and the existing area code? I wondered if I should try to put them in SPN, but am not sure?

Is all the 364 area code going to be local to you, or will some be LD?

Only those in the local dialing area.

The problem is we will be required to begin 10 digit dialing when this is implemented. Some of the numbers in both area codes will be ld and some of the numbers will be local.

If it is local, you probably already dial them and do not need to do anything in programming, the Telco will know. For the LD piece, you will have to add the code in LD 90, just enter the same parameters for another working LD number, typically under NPA, but that will depend on how your PBX is set up.

Probably the easiest thing to do is build 270 and 364 as an SPN and then build 1270 and 1364 as NPA's. We have the same thing here in Kansas City where you can 10 digit dial in 913 and 816. That is how we handle it is with SPN's

I tested putting the area code in spn and it worked. I already had both area codes in npa for the long distance. Thanks so much for the advice. All I need to do is let everyone on campus know when we will change.
