i want to create an application that sits on a specific server an does various stuff. But i want clients to to use this application through their browsers.

Are servelets the way forward?

my meaning of application can be interpreted to : application/applet

Servlets are just java classes that sit in a Servlet Engine and spit out HTML. I am not entirely clear on what you are asking though. Yes, if you want your users to access an online application through their web browsers than Servlets combined possibly with JSP and either JavaBeans or EJBs is definitely the way to go.

Servlets have nothing to do with Applets. You can embed Applets in your Servlets but I try to keep everything on the server whenever possible. Wushutwist
