Are files with "png" extension important?

I think I have too many of files with "png" extension in my folder C:\WINNT\System32\directx\Dinput. Are they absolutely important for Windows2000 to function properly? Can they be deleted without affecting Windows2000 adversely?

png files are image files. on there own thay are not important. usually programs don't care about those. but can never assume anything about someone else's code.

to compromize, made a new folder, move all the files you don't want in there ( in some way you can remember where they came from ), and use the computer for a few days ( or weeks ) ... if there are no problems then hook 'em
