Hi All, are BCM & VCM cards the same thing? My BP replaced a BCM card at our trouble site where we drop calls regularly, we also swapped out a router at that end. We are still dropping calls, so I just wanted to know if they are the same because so many people recommeneded replacing the VCM card.

Thanks, Dawn

I think you had someone who does not understand what a VCM is :)
good luck this weekend

tlpeter, can you explain it to me then? You've been in on all of this, and now I have replaced a router at the trouble site, it is now properly grounded, etc. I asked our BP to replace the VCM last week, and today I have been told that they replaced a BCM, in fact, here are the serial numbers if that helps you identify what was replaced:

Removed SN#07FC306BQ4221
Installed SN# 07FC05502012

I am still getting the MEDIA EXCEPTION errors, and I can still link each and every dropped call to that error. Maybe I just need to spend an entire day looking at monitor and checking routers for every single drop at the exact moment they happen.

I don't know anything like a BCM

Hmmm. this is exactly what he said in his email:

The BCM 8 Card was changed this morning at about 8 AM.

I am so at a loss at this point. Say, does an Avaya BP have the ability to call in an Avaya person for a vendor meet? ATT thinks we should have a vendor meet, and I agree, as long as we can get Avaya in on it.

B and V are next to each other on the keyboard. Did you ask the vendor for the love of God?

I'm sure they meant VCM... if you look at a keyboard the B and V keys are next to each other. It's a typo more than likely from your VP... oh I mean.. BP... heh heh. :)

Yes, I asked the vendor, he hasn't written me back yet. But I've spoken to him before this replacement and he called it a BCM, unless I just misunderstood him.

if you r vendor is really calling it a BCm then get rid of the vendor. No wonder you have dropped calls. They must really not know what they are doing. 573Dawn where are you located?

I am located in Central Missouri :)

So a BCM is a NORTEL card?!?

BCM is a phone system from nortel
believe me it won't fit in your ip office :)
the serial numbers are almost the same so the thing that came out is replaced by something that looks the same

kwing112000, I appreciate the offer. What might is cost me?

Could it be instead a BCA?
Meaning that you had a 8-analog-port card?
I have a 16 BCA module on my IPO 406...
A and M are not side-by-side on the keyboard, but eventually you misunderstood the spelling of BCM and BCA.
Just an attempt to give a reason to your question...

sorry, perhaps it is an italian only acronym and it doesn't apply ;-(
We use it to specify analog phones/plugs/cards vs digital (and tipically proprietary) ones.
I wasn't able to find the acronym meaning, though.....

Don't we all just love acronyms!!!!
