ARCServer 2000 getting e3855

I am using ARCServe 2000 on W2k Server just purchased a Quantum LTO2 tape Drive. System sees it as a Certance Ultrium 2 Device. I can add it to the Device list...add a tape to the Media Pool and "Format" the tape. But when I try to do a backup to the tape, it asks me to insert tape and when I do that - hit OK - it immediately fails with error code 3855(unable to position media). I get same scenario when the tape is already in drive.

Now here's the kicker...I can backup just fine when using the Veritas Backup Exec 10 that came with the new tape drive. But my boss doesn't want to purchase the Remote Server Agents, MS SQL agents and Exchange Agents to use the Veritas backup since we have those agents with CA ARCServe already. Any ideas?

Do you have both Arcserve and Veritas loaded on the same server? We ran into problems using Arcserve if the Vertias Services were also started on the same box...

You can use veritas fine, but not arcserve - disable the OS drivers and run through this document. If you're able to use Veritas OK, you had to have had the OS level drivers loaded:

i have the same problem like bagooba..
i installed all arcvserve 2000 updates, changed scsi card.. nothing changed..

I found that my tape drive is NOT compatible with this version of ARCServe. I am in the process of convincing my manager to update to the latest version of BrightStor.
