ArcServeIT 6 and Netware 3.2 jobs not completing or stopping

This is a recurring problem and I'm now on the second DAT drive.
as an example the autopilot backup started at 11pm last night is still shown as active but the blank tape hasn't even been given a serial number yet and no files have been backed up. I can't stop the job from the console or via Arcserve Manager.
It's an external drive, the SCSI cable's new.

I took the tape out yesterday but Device manager said it was still in until I unloaded TAPESVR.NLM then reloaded.

Unloading Arcserve scheduler at the console always crashes the server so I'd have to reboot to try that and it's too busy here right now.

What DAT drive do you use ?? the older ARCserve 6 for NetWare versions might not support DDS4 type drives.

it's a Sony DDS3 drive - an SDT 9000.
The old one has worked fine for years.
