I use Arcserve2000 Advance Edition (build 1100) on a Win2k Server with the SQL2000 agent installed on a different server. All the backups are ok but I can't restore a simple database. I get the following message in my Activity log: E8603 failed to write to database. (DBNAME=TestBackup, EC=Backup Agent Error - (63) "Backup/Restore is cancelled".)In the BAMSSQL.pdf file I found on CA site (which is the Backup Agent for Microsoft Agent option guide) in Chapter 3, Section Restoring, point 7, it says to right-clic the database but the right clic doesn't bring the "Backup Agent Restore Options" dialog box. I have the option button in the Arcserve2000 restore screen but these options aren't the same. Is that because that option guide is too old (even if there are some reference to SQL2000) ?
Thanks for any help....

Try to start the backup agent rpc server service with the account that is used for starting the sql services..

since you are overwriting the database, choose " force restore over existing database" in the restore options and then try the restore again.

If the above solution fails, try to start the sql services with the local system account and try the restore..

or

You can restore the database with a new name...

thanks

Thanks for your help. I will try what you said about changing the services but I want to mention you that I already tried to restore the database with a new name and I received exactly the same messages (E8603... and Backup Agent Error (63)).
You also mentionned to choose "force restore over existing database" but I don't see that in the restore options...

Ok. I just checked the server services and they are all started with the Local System Account (RPC, MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT). I remembered that my Arcserve Services were not started with that account so I changed them, restarted these services and I tried another restore: still the same error....

when you right click on the database session in the restore window, you should get the "backup agent option"..
Clicking that menu will open up the "backup agent restore
options".. this is where u see the "force restore over existing database..

Also in the destination tab, you have to uncheck "restore files to original location" and drill down to the sql machine and highlight the "golden icons" which says microsoft sql server..

while submitting the restore job, enter the nt security with the domain name\username format and then the sql security(sa).

thanks,

baba
