Hi guys,

I've got the following problem in my backup,

E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=, EC=EXCH Exchange Agent -- (402) "Exchange system error".)

Arserve 2000 sp4
Exchange 2000

Rights seems to be fine, when I do a testbackup of the bricklevel all seems to work, but then, when te scheduled backup has to do the job it hanges with the error message above... please help.. this is very frustrating..

Hi,

DO you get this error on the same mailbox always or is this sporadic??
How much free space do you have on the partition where the Exchange Agent is intalled???
Set up a batch file to recycle the Backup agent RPC server
service a few minutes before the Schedules job kicks in..

Cheers,

Thanks for you're quick response. Diskspace is no issue, plenty of room (clean installed server) The error is not given by a mailbox I think, Personally I think that is the agent that is causing te troubles. I wil try to restart the service before the backup starts (which I do not find a correct solution to the problem..., more a workaround)

Are there more known problems with the agent?

All we need is a good backup be it a workaround or a solution...

Yes, I have aplied that fix, didn't work... very, very strange...

Some more info... When I Manualy start a job to backup the mailboxes it works!! but when I schedule a job it is getting the error wich I desribed in my first message... beats me...

Is it any scheduled job, or just the nightly scheduled jobs? In other words if you schedule a job to run in 2 minutes, does it fail? If not, there may be a conflict with virus scanning or Exchange Maintenance that is making the IS unavailable during your current backup window. I have seen that happen in the past.

I've had this error in the past, it was caused by the virus checker monitoring files in both directions, switched it to incoming only and it all started working....

Hi Guys,

I have changed the time when the job must start.. This after I have mentioned that when I scheduled the backup during day-time (for testing) ,it works OK...
Lets wait and see..
