Hi,

I am using ARCServe V11.1 and all of my network is running at 100mb but for some reason it is taking something like forty eight hours to backup about 80gb.

My backup device is connected to my server using SCSI and eveything is attached using auto-sense HP NIC's and patched into Cisco Catalyst Switches.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Start with a local backup. This is needed to make sure the problem is just over the network.

If a local backup is the speed it should be then start by cking out the NIC in the local system.

Often configuring it for fixed 100 is better than the auto config.

Just a thought - you may also want to check how your anti-virus software is configured at your site.

If your are virus scanning files when reading from disk this will really slow down your backup speeds.

Regards,

Gary

We have had issues with auto negotiate on our nics also
had to hard set a speed and that resovled our issues

Also, check your retry settings on open files - your server might be spending time sitting around waiting for a file to be released.

In all likelihood, Rakerr is right. If your switch is set to full and one of the devices is set to half duplex, the errors will slow the backup to an unbelievable crawl.
