currently we use Arcserve 11.5 (just upgraded) and we backup to a fixed disk and then to tape at more convenient time. It works fine, however, until the first tape fills up, then the copy fails. Can someone tell me the switch or parameter to use so that it will prompt me for another tape? thank you

Since you upgraded to 11.5 you are better off using the built in disk staging than relying on tapecopy.

Ive looked at this but the thing is, sometimes it varies on when we can do the copy to tape from our fixed disk system and we dont have a tape library, so someone has to be here to change out tapes (no third shift operator yet) so for the time being we are stuck with tapecopy. And it worked fine at 11.1, but the upgrade to 11.5 has made it so that it doesnt prompt for next tape when the first one is full, it just errors out
thank you

Tapecopy should wait for the second tape to come in, but the default wait time is 60 minutes, when this time is expired tapecopy will fail. Is this the case in your situation ?
If so use the switch -wd and set it to the desired wait time (in minutes)

regards

no, it used to prompt to put in another tape, but since the upgrade, it tells you to put in another tape and then immediately fails. very frustrating. thankyou
