I regularly perform 'test restores' from tape to a test folder to check consistency of data. I have been doing this fine but I have come to do a restore of Exchange 5.5, we have 2 sessions backing this up, 1 session holds the Directory info and the other session contains the Information Store (both private and public). When I come to try and restore these within 1 second of running it I get the Error message 'Restore Operation Failed'. After checking the logs I also recieved the error messages 'E3022 No Valid Destination'

Is it possible to restore Exchange to another Directory or not? Help!!!!

Many Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

you are trying to restore a 'hot' or 'online' backup (backup performed through the Exchange database agent) to a 'cold' or 'flat file' destination (directory on a server). This is not possible due to the design of hot backups with database agents. Hot backups MUST be restored through the Exchange Agent to the Exchange server.

regards

You can create a 2nd exchange server, you must set it up with the same store name as the production one. Then you can redirect your restore. It is possible, I've done it. (I did do it on a separate domain though.)

Good luck!

Thank you both for your help, may well do what you did Debi!

Many Thanks,

Andy

Can someone please post more details as to how to rectify this problem. I;m having the exact same problem but with SQL databases.

I'm trying to restore to the same SQL servers but different destination, created a test directory. This SQL has the SQL AGent client running on it.

Thank you in advance!
