ArcServe r12.5 Problem with barcode media!

Dear colleagues

For back-up I use Arcserve BuckUP 12.5 and Autoloader 1 / 8 when formatting new cartridges (with barcode Ultrium LTO3 800Gb). I encountered problems on the new cartridges during the formatting - it says "unreadable media". Have anyone encountered this problem? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

If it was a problem with bacodes the media would fail to load into the drive.

More likely it is as the message reports, that the media cannot be read.

Put the Tape Engine into debug, retry it, and check tape.log for the error and post here.

re-read my response, thats the activity log.

take the timestamp of the error in that log and cross reference it with tape.log.

there seems to be a communication problem, best to open an issue with CA support and let them come in remote to ck it out.

I have the same problem.

When i ran a backup, I thought it was already okay because it starting to backup few files, but after a few minutes when i checked the activity log i was surprised to see that there's an error message "Unable to write to media

(Media=Friday[S/N1000005],EC=Unrecoverable Data error)

and there's also an error says "The tape drive needs cleaning. If the operation has stopped, eject the tape and clean the tape drive."


Been searching for some answers all over. I hope someone could help us.

based off the data supplied it looks like there is either bad media or drive.
