I am running Arcserve 11.1(3200) on Server 2003(sp1). We had a power failure on Monday and now I am having major problems with Arcserve. The server is on a UPS with software installed. I think that it must have shutdown in the middle of a backup or something.

In any case, I can open the Brightstor Manager without any problem, but almost any tab that I click on once inside the manager causes the program to stop responding. The activity log shows multiple errors since Monday. Errors include:
Unable to update session record EC -2009
Unable to register media EC -2009
Unable to login to database engine -2005
Failed to login to database engine -2005
Unable to find any media that can be used for this job.

I have tried repairing Arcserve, and I have tried reinstalling SP2 before I saw the errors in the log. Can anybody give me suggestions as to why these errors may be occurring, or how I might fix them considering most everything I try to do crashes the program?

your database has gone corrupted during the shutdown. Best way to solve this is the 'quick and dirty' way of initializing the database. Go to the server admin, select the database engine tab. Then go to 'operation - initialize database'. Choose all databases to initialize. be sure to have the manager closed when performing this action.
It will leave you with a complete empty database but ARCserve will respond again.

I have taken your suggestion and tried to reinitialize the databases. An error message appears for each database that states:
Failed to initialize database (asjob, asmedia, etc.)
Please close other Brightstor Arcserve Backup applications and try again.
The only app. I have open is server admin.

check the running processes on the server. If the Manager is shut the process BrightStorMgr shouldn't be running. Also no carunjob processes should be running at the time you inintialize the database.

Thanks.
I was able to initialize the databases after a restart and after stopping all the CA related services, not just the engines.
Is there something that I should be doing to prevent this from happening, or some kind of backup that will let me recover the database if this were to happen again?

You have the usual tools like Dbcheck, Dbfix, Keybuild and Dbdefrag to check and repair the database but they can run very long on relatively small databases. You have also the possibility to switch to Microsoft SQL server which is much more stable and can handle larger database sizes.
Also keep in mind the possibility to backup the ARcserve database in a seperate session and restore it with the 'recover database' utility.
