Running Arcserve 6.61 sp2a for Nt4 sp6a and database is huge. Unfortunately after checking and repairing database it appears we have no where near enough free space to pack the database. Has anyone a solution to this as it would save my life.

Cheers

How large is your hard drive?
Do you have more than one partition?
Is compression turned on?

Some details would help. Glenn A

andynes, if you're still checking this post, I have some good news for you.

AS will allow you to initialize the database essentially erasing all the entries and thus shrinking it to a much more manageable size.

-From Database Manager- (\..\ArcserveIT\DBMGR.EXE)
Select the Initialize tab
Select All Databases
Click Initialize

I know what you're thinking, you'll lose all your old records and your tapes will be useless. The first part of this is true, the second part is false. You will have to do a MERGE on each of the tapes that you may want to do a restore from, but hopefully that will not be many.

You should also activate the Database Pruning job to run nightly (or daily, it really doesn't matter) and remove records more than 30 days old.

-From ArcServe Server Admin- (Should be in your Start Menu)
Select Admin -> Configuration from the main menu bar
Go to the Database Engine tab
Check Enable Database Pruning and set the time and the number of days old to be pruned (default is 30, works fine for me)

Thanx for the tip, have intialised the database and now is down to a much better size and will enable me to manage the database a lot better

cheers
