hi. why wont my arcserve 2000 jobs pick up a second tape automatically from the library? the first tape in any job appears to fill but then the job halts and asks for a second tape instead of picking the next one from the magazine of blank tapes. when we give it another tape manually the job does not continue. i have 2 jobs running so 2 tapes get picked up when the jobs start - one completes as all tha data fits on the one tape but the other halts as above. we tried putting everything in one job and the same thing happens.

help!

Hi,

make sure that all the slots are assigned to 1 group. submit the job to this group.. it should pick it up

yep. all slots are already assigned to Group0 which is the only group we use. for tonights job there are 5 tapes in the magazine..i can see them all in Group0 and all looks fine...only odd thing is that the Seq. field is reading '1' for all 5 tapes....is that correct?

What is the option you have selected for "additional media" on the global options? Is the Rotation Job or a custom job ?

First Media is set to "Overwrite Same Media or Blank Media then Any Media" and Timeout is set to 5 minutes.

Additional Media is set to "Overwrite Same Media or Blank Media" and Timeout is unchecked - thereby showing as 0 minutes in Job Summary. Could this be the cause? We've now set the 'Overwrite' to include ..."then Any Media" and set the Timeout to 10 minutes and will test it tonight.

Those options only work with Custom backups. GFS and Rotation jobs use the rules of the Media Pool or an unformatted tape.

If this is a GFS or Rotation job then do a Quick Erase Plus on the tapes and it should be fine.
