Hello all, I have a problem with my copy of Arcserve. I tried running a job on Monday night that ended up freezing halfway through the back up procedure. I'm pretty sure I know why it froze, so I'm not too worried about that, but the problem now is that I can't get the job to stop. I clicked the stop button, but it stayed at 50 percent since Tuesday afternoon. finally I just manually removed the tape and tried to stop and restart all the arcserve services. It's still stuck in the "stopping" phase.

How can I completely restart the ArcServe service? Any tips. Thanks!

From the Services application stop the ARCserve services and close the Manager. Next delete the queue, it is the directory under ARCserve 00000000.qsd.

The other way is to try to cancel the job at the source of the hang. Usually it is caused by an agent that is not responding.

Hi Haleon, davidmichel, hi everybody,

If you are running W2K or XP:
- Alt-Ctrl-Del/Task Manager button/Process tab/ you should see the asrunjob.exe process; read its PID
- Start/Run/type "kill (pid)" without the quotes and replacing pid by the number read

jobs in Arcserve tend to corrupt in this fashion due to the job files being fragmented. Usually the best way to counter this is to delete the .qsd files as per ipl001's instructions and reload a new job from your previously saved .asx file (assuming you saved the job when it was created). If the job continues to corrupt, try and rebuild a completely new .asx file.

oh and perform a defrag on your server.... :)
