Good Day Everyone,

I am running ARCSERVE 2000 on a windows 2000 server, this morning i noticed that my database will not start. I've tried to manually start it and still no luck, the other two services run fine.

I've gone through the server admin application and verified that the account being used to run the service is correct. I've checked the ArcServe shared directory and the account is setup correctly.

I receive the following 3 errors
- -2005
- E5110
- E4101

Any ideas???

Thanks

most likely it is caused by corruption but try restarting the server as a first step.

Still no good stop all the services close the manager make a backup copy of the database directory.

Install ARCserve on some other system and then copy the new database directory over to the original install. If it works then you know the problem is corruption in the database. If it does not work then I'd say reinstall ARCserve.

Open in modify mode (job status window right click modify) each of your jobs and do a file save as so you don't have to recreate them.

Thanks DavidMichel, quick question in order to save my current jobs, I have followed your instructions and gone to modify, then went to file and save as. It saved rather quickly and the file format is asx. Did i go about saving my job correctly?

Thank you

yes, keep a copy outside of the ARCserve directory for safe keeping. the uninstall should not remove them but...

Try this the next time:

1. Kill the DBEng.exe and RDS.exe services.
2. Open the ARCServe directory then open to the Database directory.
3. Remove all the files ending with *.CHG and all files starting with RDM
4. Restart the engine.

I hope you find this post helpful.

CSG, it worked. I had close to 6GB of .CHG files.

Thank you all for your help.

Cheers

Your welcome! To reduce the size on your DB you can also read the faq478-5164
