Arcserve and differential Unix Backup? Which produkt?

Hello!

Yes, i know, Arcserve2000 is unable to do a GFS Job on Unix because they use Archiv Bit to do differential backups..and unix does not an archiv bit.

But which Produkt from CA can do real differential Backups on Unix Systems? The new Brightstor v9 maybe? Or the Enterprise Version?

Or which Produkt from other companies can do this?

IMHO CA should work on this feature very fast.. without Arcserve is not usable for my company.

As far as I am aware, ARCserve 2000 cannot do a roatational job, but you should be able to use a filter to only include files that were modified since the last day. Simulating an incremental backup.

Hi fritz...

unfortunately not really. If you extract an tar archive the modified date of the files is that when tar was created. If you make such a "filter" differential backup you can only say "take all files that modified within x days before today" (you can't use a absolut date because then you have to modify the job each day :-(

But in this case with the tar archiv, the files were not backed up because the modify date is out of range.

I know, you can touch all the files to set an new modify date, but in some cases i like to keep the old modify dates.

You can see..such an "filter backup" make some trouble.

Sorry about that, did not think of uncompressing files. Unfortunately, no easy solution I can think of. If I come up with a brainstorm I will post.

CA has some UNIX native solutions as well. BrightStor EB 10.0 supports SUN, AIX, HP and T64...
