I am using Arcserve 2000 in Windows 2000. Arcserve is running fine (fine as possible), but it averts 2000's own backup program to run correctly.

When I try to make backup with w2k's own backup-program I get message: "Removable Storage did not mount the requested media. The operation was aported". Also in Computer Management tape drive's (drive 0) state is "disabled, dismountable". But as I said arcserve runs fine...

So has there been problems with windows backup and arcserve before?

Anyone?

Thanks.

You have to enable RSM to use the Win 2K Backup utility -- ARCServe takes exclusive control of the tape subsystems befoire it can use them.

You can enable RSM by going into the Removable Storage management console (in the Computer Management MMS console)and right clicking the device you want to enable/disable and check the "Enable Library" checkbox accordingly.

There's also an ARCServe option available but I can't remember it's name offhand...

I beleive that once you enable RSM for MS backup, the device you select won't be avilable for ARCServe until you "disable" the library involved again.

In ArcServe 2000's Device Configuration utility under Start - Programs - ArcServe, there is the option to Enable/Disable Devices (for RSM). It is in this option that you can select or deselect the library and/or drives that you would like ArcServe to have full control over. I am sure that you could go into this option again and uncheck the devices that you do not want ArcServe to control.
