Arcserve 9 media not recognized

I'm running Arcserve 9 on Windows 2000 server with an HP Surestore Ultrium 215 internal backup tape device. When I set up a backup and start it I get the message "Please mount any media. Media pool can not be used by a non-media pool custom job." I can occasionally get it to backup to the tape, but not on a regular basis. Even with a tape in the drive it doesn't "see" one there. I'm not sure about what a non-media pool custom job is and why this backup is see as one. I do have a group called HPTAPE created and selected with "*" listed for media. What am I not understanding here?

Make a new inventary of the media. Maybe a reboot caused to bad initializased that media.
