Arcserve 9 hangs during session restore

I am trying to restore a directory on my Windows 2k Arcserve Server.

I can only find the data via the "restore by session" method.

The job starts, Media is found, session is found, restore starts, file count gets to 4 in 1 second then it hangs.

The Job cannot be stopped.

carunjob.exe is executing using 100% of cpu. This cannot be stopped and its priority cannot be changed.

I have to restart the server.

I am running Brightstor Arcserve 9.0 (Build 2040) on Windows 2000 server SP4

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

I haven't seen this before.

What did you backup in this session?
What version of ARCserve did you use to create the tape?
How old is the tape? i.e. Was it pruned?

The restore I'm attempting is from the E: drive of the Server running Arcserve.

I have tried more than one tape. Last weekly and July 2004 monthly.

Nothing has changed since the backups were taken. Same installation made the tape as is trying to restore it.

The only odd thing is that first time I tried restore I specified the wrong password. This recorded error:

E3073 Unable to login as user ...

in the Activity log but Arcserve didn't stop attempting the restore. The restore went on to hang as it is now doing even though the password is now correct and the error E3073 doesn't occur.
