Arcserve 9.0 Media in device group GROUP0 is not in the scratch set o

My existing server that acted as a backup server went bellyup last week and I've setup Arcserve on an identical server - Windows 2000 SP4 - Arcserve 9.0

I can Mount and inventory tapes - I've setup a backup rotation job for each night and have created a Media pool with a Save & Scratch set

In the Scratch set - there are six tapes from Wednesday and one from Monday. In the Save set, there is one tape from Tuesday - where I tried to run a backup this morning

Since then, I've done the following troubleshooting:

I deleted and recreated the job & Media Pool.

Created a new job and erased the tapes. - Same error as before.

I then deleted all jobs from queue.
Stopped the CA Services.
Renamed the .qsd folder
Added a new backup job.
Same error
Recreated the job then initialised the database.
Did a regular inventory of the autoloader.

You can try few more steps to try and make it work.
Did you check if the tapes that you assigned in the scratch set is in the tape drive as well as in the same device group in the "destination tab" to which the job is pointing to ?

Media pool backup jobs check if the media in the scratch set (same name and ID) is there in the device group where the job is pointing to (you can check this by modifying the job and going to destination tab)If it is not there then it will look for a blank media (which you can get by doing a 'quick erase plus' in the tape) in the group

Hi Rampa03 - There were three 'Thursday' tapes in the scratch set and three Thursday tapes in Device - I rescheduled the job - same error as before - heres the log:

Could you pls modify the job that is failing, go to destination tab and check to which group it is pointing to. According to job it says Group 0. If it is then check the media id for those tapes and see if there are same as that of what we see in the media pool. We can do a quick erase plus on just one of the group 0 tape to make the job work till we fix the problem.

Under Destination/Group/Group 0 - there were three Thursday tapes, none of which were in the Scratch set or anywhere in the Media Pool.

but even when I manually assign them to the Scratch set, it throws up the same error!

Likewise when I do an erase and inventory afterward!

the question is what tape we are assigning to the scratch set? When you manually assign tapes to the scratch set it may also show some of the tapes that you dont have in the tape drive, need to make sure if the tape id of the one in the drive matches with the one that you assign to the scratch set. If a tape is erased (shows 'blank media') and in the same device group (like Group0) to which the job destination is pointing to then it should work by desgin. If it is not then we are missing something.

OK, I Inventored all the tapes that were loaded - I then checked the Serial no's of those tapes ( that were visible in Device Group 0)

I assigned say 'Thursday' tapes with the corresponding serial no's to the Scratch set

Rescheduled the job and got the same error as normal.

I then removed all the tapes from the database, apart from the three tapes previously mentioned - same steps and same error

I then removed everything from the Scratch set and Save set, erased the tapes and got the same error!!

I'm tearing my hair out!!!

okay, lets dissect this. Can you put the current job on hold, create a new test job with media pool and start with all blank medias ? may be the old job is corrupt or has a problem which needs a closer look

Ok, when I run the rotation job, I get the same error.

When I run a new backup, with the rotation job on hold, I get the following error:
