My backups were working fine, until I received a message
indicating that the tape media was off-line. When I insert the tape in the drive, the summary tab only indicates off-line. Tape drive itself shows configuration information on the summary tab. any solution to this.

thanks..

Hi,
I'm not 100% sure regarding this but it can be that your media has an experation date on it and that day is here now so that is why it is off-line.
Have you tested to Erase and Format the media?

This same thing happened to me just the other day. It told me the tape was off-line and there were SCSI errors in the Activity log. I tried reinserting the tape, turning the tape drive off then back on, tried changing the SCSI cable, but none of that worked. What finally fixed it was a reboot of the system- it had been up for awhile.

Maybe this helps?

If it was the drive that was offline and you were getting scsi errors, first try running a cleaning tape.. Then Start thing about getting the drive replaced..

thanks for reply :

I found out that my tape driver keeps uninstalling itself:
it recently started this problem occuring more often:
I'm going to try a tape cleaner, to see if it stops the re-occurrences
