I recently became the manager of a small Netware 5.0 network that has ArcServe 6.6 as a Tape Back-up utitlity. I am trying to read what the Back-up Tapes have recorded and the help files indicate that Scan Tape will provide a report with this information. I can't seem to get this to work as the software asks for the name of a text file and doesn't accept what I have tried. Has anyone experience with this?

Hi,
In the Arcserve Manager->Backup Manager, you will see the "Notification" options. Click on the same and you will get an option to type in the report file name. Just type the file name and no path is required.

Report type should be selected as "Detailed Report".
After typing the file name, say "OK" and close the window.

Now, open the Notification again and you will see the full path of the file. That is where the file gts saved.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Does this file have to be created before using the "Backup Manager"? I can't seem to get the software to accept a file name.

Hi,
I meant the "Scan" option and not the backup manager. sorry abt that.
In the Notification option, if you type in the file name, it accepts normally.
Do you get any pop-up error message when you give a file name?

I get a pop-up error message "Report Path cannot be verified" when I click the "OK" button after indicating a report file name (which I make up). Is there a trick to this?

Hi,
Can you give the path of the file as follows and try:
sys:\test

does it accept this?

I finally was able to get the software to recognize the report file name. Now, how do I get the report to print? The Job Queue Manager says the Scan Tape job is running, but I see no evidence that it has created a file to print. This software is not very user friendly.

Hi,
In the same notification window, you will have an option to print the report out. Configure the print queue and have it printed.

I did configure the Print Queue and ran the Scan Tape utility. The Report did not print. What could have caused that? Is this really the only method to determine what is actually recorded on the tape?

Hi,
No really. The file name whatever you had given during the scan job will contain every piece of information about the contents of the tape. You can open the file and have it printed.

Thanks
