I've been fighting with this program for two months now...I can get this thing to run backups, it's when I pull the tape cartridge out and replace it with new (or old) tapes...I can't get the device re-initialized. The tape engine stops automatically when I "pop" the autloader cartridge out. After re-inserting the cartridge and starting the tape engine back up I can't see any devices listed in my "Device" window....I get the "Device initializing" notice and that's all. I have to re-boot the server to get everything back to normal...this server is supposed to be up 24/7.(

System: IBM Netfinity Server
OS: Windows 2000 server (SP-1)
Drive: Seagate DAT 06241-xxxx 6 tape Internal SCSI Autoloader (supports DDS4 dat)

I was told early on by Seagate tech support to disable the Removable Drive Service that comes with Win 2000 if I was using ARCServe 2000....is this true?

I tried enabeling the Removable Drive Service today...I am getting the same results.

I NEED HELP!!! It's been two months of hard times with this thing..what am I doing wrong?!?!?

Hey Sevin,

Arcserve 2000 has a few quirks to say the least. Have you tried performing an eject tape and then dismount magazine first? Try to ensure it is dismounted and then change your tapes and then remount and see what happens.

Let me know if this works.

Thanks,

Hi Daryl,

Thanks!! It's been working, (so far).

)

We have ArcserveIT with an old Dell server....it NEVER had a problem with ejecting tapes....go figure.

Thanks for the tip!!

I tryed to install arcserve 2000 on a 2000 machine
I get the internal error 2735 callpreinstall.
The only thing i found whas that my IE version should be in correct(it's not)
Can somebody help me?

Hi MKiepman,

I've come across the exact same error in the past. I believe it was a problem with the security access rights on the Arcserve install directory (both Share and NTFS permissions). Double check that you have enabled permissions for the account that is performing the Arcserve install.

The other thing to check is some of the local security policies (Log on as User, Log on Locally). Ensure that your arcserve account has these rights as well.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

One thing further I found on the other threads that should help you as follows re 2735 error:

this issue is know to CA support.
The problem is only with foreign windows 2000 versions.
The Install of ARCserve 2000 hangs at the end. Just stop any open tasks and kill a freezed arcserve install task so your desktop gets empty. Locate the folder on your harddisk where you have installed ARCserve 2000 and right click the folder. In the share section you will find the share name ARCserve$. Add the following members with the mentioned rights to the permission list: Administrators - Full Control, Backup Operators - Change, (the user account you have choosen during install for to use with ARCserve 2000 - Full Control). Change the startup types of the ARCserve services to automatically. Close everything and reboot. ARCserve should work just fine.

Hope that's a little more clear.

Thanks,
