I need to reinstall my Arcserve 2000 on a new box (W2K SP2). I have an Exabyte EZ17 tape drive that I had on a different box that I would like to use. The install seems to have worked fine, I installed tape library option, and installed the licenses.I also installed Arcserve SP4. Arcserve finds the Exabyte, but will not mount the drives or anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is it a supported device? Does it have the correct firmware? check the certified devices list.

Do you have the latest device support patch installed?

Yes, it is a supported device, I also have the latest device support patch on.
The firmware is Ok, it worked on another box just fine, but this one doesn't seem to like it.

Did you run the ARCserve device configuration? There's an option to enable & disable RSM - you have to be sure ARCserve has control of the device.

I ran the device configuration, but it shows no devices. It shows up fine in Device Manager.
Also shows up in devices in Arcserve. It shows the drives dismounted, and when I try to mount the magazine, I get a message saying the changer door is open or magazine is out.
I have it in place, and it has tapes in it. I know that is not the problem. Any idea why I cant see it in Arcserve device Configuration enable-disable RSM? I can see it in the Tape and Optical Library option.
Thanks.

I've found that I have to hit the back button and go back into enable/disable two or three times before my devices showed up.

Just tried it 10 times, no go. Iv'e tried it everyday for the last few days, and no go.
Could the device itself be broken?

What is an Exabyte EZ17? how many slots/heads do you have? Do your SCSI card diagnostics see the drives and library? If it was working on the other box it *should* still be OK.

I recall on the last exabyte I had (10 slot single head 5-7 years back) I had to set a SCSI compatability mode or something similar - I don't recall. There was also an option to set the contoller - Scsi, Serial, Diag or Panel. We'd have to set the control to panel for any manual work and set it back to scsi...... I'm just rambling...

Thanks, I'll run through these things and let you know what I find.
