I have installed Arcserve 2000 Exchange Agent and somehow I cant get it working. I am using Win2000-SP2, Exchange 2000-SP2 and Arcserve 2000-SP3.

I created and account and gave it the neccessary rights, Domain Admins, Backup operators, Administrators and delegated control on Exchange server too. Also gave service rights, logon as a service, logon locally, Act part of operating system.

I logged on to the domain using the Account which I configured for the Arcserve agent and then I ran the Agent , still I am getting the error message.(Failed to get the information for the specified account, EC=1314).

I also created a local user by the same name and gave it local administrators and Backup operators rights but no use. Please suggest somethig as this is very important.

Thanks in advance.

Can you stop and start the agent from the services program.
If not then you have THE exact same problem we do. Basically the agent isn't working, it wont do an over-the-top install, wont uninstall, it's totally stuffed! The only way I could stop the service was to re-name the service EXE and re-start the service.

When you're sure you've set all the nessecary rights, you have to uninstall the agent, then reinstall the agent again en run the latest service pack. Then try again.
It should work. It won't work when the computer is not a domain controller.

Silly as it seems, you also need to have the win 2000 client agent installed with the exchange client. I had the same problem but it's working fine once I figured that out.

I got it sorted out ..Thanx everybody for their ansewers.

1. Create a domain account for the user to be used while configuring the agent.
2. Give it Administrators, Domain Admin, Backup Operators rights. Remove Domain Users from the group list. Make Domain Admin the Primary group of the user.
3. In Domain Controller Security Policy, Under Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment; assign Act as part of operating system, Logon on as a service & Logon on locally rights to the user.
4. In Domain Security Policy, Under Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment; assign Act as part of operating system & Logon on as a service rights to the user.
5. In Local Security Policy, Under Security Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment; assign Act as part of operating system, Logon on as a service & Logon on locally rights to the user.
6. If it’s a Member Server add the domain user to Administrators, Power Users and Backup Operators groups.
7. If it’s a Member Server create a user with the same user name and password as the domain user on the local machine and assign it to Administrators, Power Users and Backup Operators groups.
8. On the Exchange server go to System Manager, right click on the Organisation icon and select Delegate Control and add the Domain User and assign Exchange Full Administrator rights to it.
9. Install the agent and give all the valid inputs in the boxes, Exchange should authenticate the user.
10. Start Arcserve Backup and take Brick Level Backups of the Exchange Server.

Hi everyone a couple of days ago i solved a problem with ArcServe Backup Agent.

Everytime when i tried to configure ArcServe Backup Agent, it came up with this error message:

[Authentication Failure: Fail to Create Profile --- Check
the [c:\ExchVerify.log] for detail and make sure the User Mailbox Name or Alias is correct and Unique.
< case sensitive!!! >

I found out that the solution is very simple but also very tricky ;)

Solution:

First of all start Exchange Server, after this go to "recipients" and select the Backup Agent Service Account.
After this you go to the menu "file" and chose properties.
In the properties dialogbox choose the tab "advanced" and deselect the checkbox "hide from address book".

This should solve the problem!

I have installed Backup Agent for Exchage 2000 of Arcserve 2000, however, I can only do blick level backup.
I can't expand the exchange databases. And the backup will be executed but with failed result and no detailed recorded
even I have set it to record the backup records in detail.

Any hint in why the Exchange database can't be expanded.

Thanks,

Agnes

make sure the service pack levels are consistent, other than that you must follow the documentation to the letter when setting it up.. All authentication levels within exchange, within your domain, everything must be right.

Restore problem

I have installed Arcserve 2000 with SP4 in windows 2000 member server patched with SP2.

I can backup and restore database level sucessfully.

However, the result of the restore is not what I expected. It looks like that nothing has been happened. Although the sucessfully finished is recorded in the task screen. Everything seems normal, even the restored database and logs are recorded as the restore complete time. But the resote seems never happened.

Should anyone also come across the same problem and solved, please give me some hints.

Many thanks,

Agnes
