Arcserve 2000 and doesn't restore correctly 1

Hi everyone.

I have been trying to get Arcserve 2000 Advanced running on my Windows 2000 Server. It is a Compaq server with a 15/30 DLT tape drive. I have installed Arcerve 2000, SQL agents, and SP3 in that order. I can create a backup job, let it run, and it works fine. I can create a restore job, and let it restore. It completes the restore successfully. However, when I find the files that I restored, they aren't the right file size. If I view the file attributes of any of the files, they will report the right size, but the size on disk is about 8K reguardless of how big it is supposed to be. Any restored .txt files are blank when opened and .exe files won't run.

I am not getting any error messages. Any ideas on why this isn't working.

Also, this server will be backing up itself (files and SQL) and 2 netware 5 servers (files only).

Do you have installed the Novell Client for Netware Networks installed on the server by chance? I had a similar problem and turned out it was causing it....

I do have nwclient v4.81 installed. Will a newer version help, or do I need to get rid of nwclient?

Don't know, tell you the truth... You could test the newest version... I just took the client off the server and decided not to use it in the future. I'm currently using the Microsoft's Gateway Services for Netware instead...

Along the same line, my backups run fine. However, when I attempt to restore, files are either 0 kb, normal size but when opened full of code (small boxes), or "unsupported format for both MS Word and WordPerfect documents. I have all of the backups I could wish for... just can't restore any. This has gone to a point where I am considering changing software and hardware.

I do have Novell client V3.30.4. Have not removed it yet, but wanted to seek qualified suggestions here in the meantime. I have to do something soon because the Firm needs to have its backups.

A final thought, is that when I first installed ARCserve 2K it seemed to work for a short time. Then all of a suggestion its back to coded pages. I'm also wondering if I doing something incorrectly. I'm fairly new at the backups, but did have success for a short time. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did uninstall nwclient. Arcserve is working fine now. Try using the Microsoft client for Netware networks if you need it to talk to a netware server.
