Hi.

I have been recently getting the error message described below:

AW0004 Failed to open file <C:\WINNT\system32\dhcp\j50.log>. RC=32, The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I am running Arcserve on a Windows 2003 server with the Open File Agent. The dhcp file is on a Windows 2000 server.

I have searched the forums and it seems like the only thing to do to stop the backup from reporting incomplete is to exclude the file from the backup.

If anybody has seen this or has any ideas I would be very grateful for any replies...

David Greetham.

I have only been at my current position for just over a month and so do not have much experience with Arcserve.

Would I have to use the exclude filter when modifying the Job?

Is there an actual option to exclude DHCP or do I have to select the folder/files manually?

Sorry to be a pain but a pointer in the right direction will stop me from creating new problems!!

David.

Yes, use the filter for folders/files when you modify the job.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ok.

I have just modified the job to exclude the files in the dhcp folder.

I would rather backup the files but until someone has another fix I will just do it this way.

Hopefully all will go well tonight.

Thanks all for your quick responses.

David.

If you want to backup open files then you need to purchase the Open Files Agent from CA.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I have the OFA installed on the Windows 2003 Server where Arcserve is installed and runs from.. The DHCP folder which it struggles to backup is on the other server which is running 2000. Does the OFA agent have to be installed on each server??

Regards,

David.

If you want to backup all open files then yes, it will need to be installed on each server that you're backing up.

I hope you find this post helpful.

yes ofa needs to be installed on machines which has open files

Firstly, thanks to everyone who replied..

For the first time in a while my backup was successful!!!

I found out that one of the two servers was running arcserve 2000 and it did not have the ofa installed! So i decided to remove all arcserve software and install the agents from arcserve 11.5...

Just for safe measure I checked all the passwords and reinitialized the database as an asterisk was next to the job id!(might have been caused by all the fiddling)

Hopefully all will be ok now.. I just must not forget to change the tapes!!!

Thanks again,

David.
