We like to do a complete backup of our data to a library so what we do is we have 6 tapes for the week days 4 tapes for fridays and 12 tapes for monthly backup.

for the weekely i have scheduled them to go to each tape of the week and to repeat every week. however when it comes to a monthly tape and the enod of the month is on a a weekday will that daily job run as well ? or can i have arcserve be smart and not do the daily job but only the monthly ?

Thanks

If you are using a GFS rotation ARCserve takes care of this for you.

Ok now these tapes have bar codes

6 Daily tape have code : d00001l3 - d00006l3
4 fridays f00001l3- f00004l3
12 monthly have m00001l3 - m00012l3

how can i configure thw gfs to read those labels for d /w/m ?

as long as you have a barcode reader installed and enabled in ARCserve device configuration the barcodes will appear as the tape serial numbers in ARCserve.

Ok i have it enabled how can i create the media pools ? to use those serial numbers

Exactly like you say it - move the tapes with those serial numbers into the relevant media pools.

When i create the media pools i cant select the tape by serial. I am using a neo 2000 library is it possible i may have to update arc serve 11

You have reserved specific barcode ranges for specific media pools. Within ARCserve there are no arrangements to automatically add barcodes to daily weekly or monthly pools.
You can workaround it (but it will some take manual intervention) by trying this:
Daily backups run mon-sat I presume since you have 6 daily media, Weekly backup runs on Sunday and monthly backups run on the last DAY of the month when using a full backup strategy ir the last SUNDAY of the month when running an incremental/differential strategy.
Format the d00001l3 - d00006l3 tape range and call them all 'daily', format the f00001l3- f00004l3 range and call the all 'weekly, format the m00001l3 - m00012l3 range and call them all 'monthly'. Next step is to assign the d00001l3 - d00006l3 tape range to the Scratch set of the Media Pool 'Daily'(this can be by right-clicking the scratch set of the media pool), then assign the f00001l3- f00004l3 tape range to the scratch set of the 'weekly' media pool and the m00001l3 - m00012l3 range to the 'monthly' media pool.
This way ARCserve will use the right range for the right media pool and you don't have to bother about this.

Hope I'm clear

Ok. I have done what you said however when i setup the GFS System I cannot pick my media Pool.

it wants to auto assign
