I have just taken over an Exchange 5.5 server with SP3 installed. It has a Internet Mail Service connection for SMTP mail. It seems that every email that passes through the IMC is archived into the folder C:\exchsrvr\imcdata\in\archive or C:\exchsrvr\imcdata\out\archive. These folders are getting pretty big and although it is easy to go into these folders and delete the contents, I would like to stop this from happening. Is there a setting somewhere that makes Exchange archive mail? Thanks for any help.

Piece of cake. IMS properties, Diagnostics Logging tab. Set Message Archival to None, stop and start IMS. While you're in there, see if you have SMTP Protocol Logging enabled. That writes logs into the imcdata\log directory (files start with L0000x). This can take up lots of space too! All other logging categories write to the Application Log.

Thanks very much. Works a treat.
