Hello friends,
I have read all good threads about running slow backups with exchange Information store but nothing to do with this new issue.
My exchange backup was going correctly but the Average Throughput has falled down drastically from 130 Mb/min a two weeks ago to almost 10 Mb/min today gradually.
It is not a network problem since antoher backup of files goes correctly at almost 200 Mb/min in the same machine.
The exchange database is now 39 Gb and backup takes more than 39 hours !!!
I have ARCServe2000 (v7.0), build 1110 with sp5) and exchange2000 in w2k advanced server. All nic at 100 Mbps, two Compaq MSL5026 drives.

I would sincerely appreciatte your opinions!
Best regards!
Fernando.

Have you tried to update the NIC drivers on the Exchange server? Or have you maybe done an update recently? If yes maybe you need to downgrade your NIC drivers. I have experienced issues like this before and they were related to the NIC's drivers.

I have try to troubleshoot this problem this way:
- Examine all the logs including debug of dbaexch but everything seems to be ok.
- Check the network to determine if the problem is local o remote. It's remote but only in the exchange server. NICs are Ok. Nothing changed. No patches applied.
- The exchange server has two jobs and one (files) it's ok at 250 Mb/min but the backup of IS is rather slow. Here it's the problem.
- Restart Backup Agent RPC Server at Exchange server but it doesn't solve the problem.
- Review arc exchange Job. It's over client agent through IP adderes. The IS looks slow when navegating the tree into ARCServe. I will try witout the client agent.
- Just remain to check the antivirus configuration to focus attention.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

So if I understand you correctly you have two backup jobs on the exchange server, one is backing up files and it is OK and the other one is backing up the exchange databases and this one is not OK?
Are both jobs configuered the same way (client agent through IP address)?

GSC

That's Ok. One file backup contains the exchange server and other and is configured similar to the exchange IS backup through client agent with IP address.

Thanks for replaying and keep in touch!
I'm satarting to think about virus but the rest of the machine it's Ok.

I have updated both NICs in each other servers (backup and exchange). No viruses seems to degradate the cpu or memory.

Slow continues during IS backup...

Any ideas? Could it be the ARC Database ?

The backup stills lasts for more than 72 hours and crash. No idea why it has been degrating the average throughput gradually.

Any hints please?

Problem persists.
Now we have reinstalled everything: ARCServe, ARC Clients, Exchange agent, all in properly order. We have pacthed everything with SP5 and try to launch a new backup.
But the process begins at 250 MB/min.
Then the store.exe at the exchange machine starts to feed all the memory resource and when it gets almost the limit, performance of backup goes down until 50 MB/min when 10% is processed and stills falling.

Now I'm lost and going to test a demo of HP Protector or Veritas software.
Maybe the agent doesnt work fine or the sotre is corrupted. Nothing more else to know...
