Hey Everyone!

I purchased a new motherboard (Photon PF1) with a P4 3 ghz and 768 mb RAM, running Windows XP Pro.

I had to change my mobo as my previous one did not detect my processor. This one worked beautifully. However I have noticed that applications such as Firefox & Photoshop freeze every couple of minutes for some time and then unfreeze.

And when shutting down the computer simply restarts and does not shutdown. My guess on this front is that the power profile isnt correct (APM, APCI, etc..).

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Try running scandisc and defrag. How often do you do virus scans and also spyware/addware scans? Also might want to try running sfc.

I ran Scandisk & degraged the computer. I also ran a repair install which should have taken care of any missing files. Also i was frustrated and I completely reinstalled windows xp as a fresh install and the apps still seem to freeze up. I do run virus scans regulary (Norton Internet Security 2006) & adware scans as well.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

If there still freezing up after a fresh install then its most likely a hardware issue. How new is your hard drive? Also test one ram chip at a time with this link below. Just doing this to try eliminating every scenario.

If you are still using your old PSU it might be that your new hard ware takes to much power and can't keep up with the higher demand.

PSU problems can cause all sorts of weird and wonderfull problems.

With your new added components it might just be over the edge of what your PSU can handle, with what you listed I would recommend you to have atleast a GOOD 450W or higher PSU.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

Switch off the 'automatically restart on error' in system settings, then check what error message you get on shutdown.

I had something similar to this a while ago. It turned out to be a bad memory stick. You might want to try to remove the memory one at a time and see if that might be the problem.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry my delay in responding... I had major internet issues and had to have my ISP come out and rewire.

I am still experiencing the issues.

My hard drive is brand new (2 months and it worked perfectly before). I also went ahead and tested one memory stick at a time and they worked fine and/or did not alter the problems. My PSU is 450+ watts and was meant for a p4, so i doubt that it is the issue.

And my computer is not restarting by itself it simply freezes on all applications and then unfreezes a couple of mins later. but this freezing is constant.

also another twist just today i got a low on virtual ram error...

If anyone has any information please let me know.
